Harassment Policy
Sexual Harassment and Company Policy
This might seem a bit heavy handed if you only have a small business however it doesn’t matter what size your company is, you are still responsible for all the staff and their wellbeing. Making sure your company has a harassment policy and a positive approach to resolution will mean staff will feel confident that as a responsible employer you are protecting your employees. Check out the Equality Law to see how things have changed www.equalitylawadvice.co.uk
It is a good idea to have a policy in place that states categorically what behaviour is and isn’t acceptable, and what you have with regard to expectations from your employees and how they behave towards each other. You will also need to include what the consequences will be if these basic human rights are not adhered to.
To clarify:
- The employee has a responsibility to behave towards their co-worker with consideration and respect. This includes not harassing or bullying colleagues.
- Make it clear that acts of harassment will be treated as a disciplinary offence
- Exhibit documents relating to the Equality Act and make a record of your staff having read the document.
- Make it clear that sex discrimination will not be tolerated at any level of management
- Ensure staff know all complaints will be taken seriously and acted upon
- Ensure staff are aware of the procedure for reporting harassment and where help/support groups are available
